Why convert WebP files
Many websites now serve pictures as WebP because the files are small. The trouble starts when you save one and try to use it somewhere else: some older software, print services, email systems and upload forms still refuse WebP. Converting it to JPEG or PNG solves that.
Going the other way, turning a PNG or JPEG into WebP is a quick way to make the images on your own website load faster.
Picking the right format
JPEG is best for photos and works almost everywhere. PNG keeps transparency and sharp detail, which suits logos and screenshots, although photos saved as PNG get large. WebP does both jobs in a smaller file. JPEG and BMP have no transparency, so see-through areas become white.
GIF output is a single still frame, so an animated GIF will not stay animated. BMP is uncompressed and only worth choosing when older software asks for it.
