How to generate placeholder text

1. Choose paragraphs, sentences or words.
2. Set how many you need, from 1 to 50.
3. Leave "Start with Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" ticked for the familiar opening, or untick it for text that starts at random.
4. Press Generate, then Copy.

Sentences run to between 6 and 18 words and paragraphs to between 3 and 7 sentences, so the text has a natural, uneven rhythm rather than identical blocks.

Why designers use it

Placeholder text lets you judge a layout before the real words exist. Because it looks like language without being readable, people reviewing a design look at spacing, type sizes and structure instead of getting caught up in what the text says. Printers and designers have used it for decades, and the words come from a scrambled passage of Cicero.

Using it well

Match the amount to the content you expect. A product card that will hold a two-line description should get two lines, not three paragraphs, or the design will look emptier or busier than it really will. Words suit headings and buttons, sentences suit captions, and paragraphs suit articles and page copy.

Before a page goes live, search it for "lorem". Placeholder text left on a published website is one of the most common last-minute mistakes, and one of the most visible.
