How to crop an image
- Upload an image or drop it onto the page.
- Pick an aspect ratio: Free, 1:1, 4:3, 16:9 or 3:2.
- Drag the crop box to move it, and pull the corner handles to change its size.
- Press Crop & Download to save just the area inside the box.
Which ratio to choose
A fixed ratio keeps the box in proportion however you drag it, which saves a lot of fiddling when a picture has to fit a particular space.
- 1:1 suits profile pictures, product thumbnails and square social posts.
- 4:3 matches most phone photos, so it trims without changing their shape.
- 16:9 fits video thumbnails, website banners and presentation slides.
- 3:2 is the classic shape of 35mm and most DSLR photos.
- Free lets you cut out exactly what you want, whatever its shape.
Good to know
The crop is taken from the full-resolution image, not the smaller preview on your screen, so the saved file keeps all the detail inside the box. The box can't be dragged past the edges of the picture, and with a fixed ratio it shrinks to fit if the image is too narrow or too short for it. If you also need a smaller file, run the result through the image resizer and compressor afterwards.
