How to make a QR code
- Choose what the code should hold: text or a web address, a WiFi network, a contact card, an email or a text message.
- Fill in the fields. For WiFi, enter the network name, the password and the security type, or choose no password for an open network.
- Set the output size in pixels. It starts at 512.
- Press Download PNG.
How to read one
Switch to Read, upload a photo or screenshot containing a QR code, and the text inside it appears ready to copy. That is handy for checking where a code leads before you open it, or for getting the details out of a code in a screenshot you can't scan with your phone.
Good to know
A WiFi code lets guests join a network by pointing their camera at it, with no long password to type. A contact card code saves a name, phone number, email address and organisation straight into someone's phone. Email and text message codes open a new message with the recipient, and any subject or wording, already filled in.
Always test a code with a phone before printing it. Keep it dark on a light background, leave a clear margin around it and print it at least 2 to 3 centimetres across so it scans from a normal distance. The codes made here point straight at your content, not through a tracking link, so they never expire.
